NOVEMBER is finally here! I feel like I have been waiting for this month for a LONG time! I love November. I love when the weather really changes and I can put on my boots and cute scarves and WEAR BEANIES! I love that Christmas is just around the corner and so is CHRISTMAS BREAK! )More time for me to read and run! )
This month I will be starting a new running book and also a new book with BOM! The November books for the Book of the Month Club are available-but I am having a hard time choosing which book I want for this month's reading! Can you help me out? Right now I`m in debate with three choices:
The Trespasser by Tana French: This is Tana French's sixth novel that links characters from all of her writings about the Dublin Murder Squad. It's a mystery book...that I feel like my mom would be really into. Detective Antoinette Conway and sidekick Moran the lead characters in this novel. I like a good mystery, and maybe by reading this novel-I`ll get hooked and HAVE to read the other 5! I don't want to provide to lengthy of a review yet...so get some more info by checking out the NY Times review here:
The Trespassor: Tana French
Swing Time: Zadie Smith- I feel that if I don't choose this book for my Book of the Month reading, I will probably order it and read it later. I can already see myself relating to the characters and the story line. This is a book about two brown girls, Aimee and Tracey, that dream of being dancers. It's a close but complicated childhood friendship that ends abruptly in their early twenties, never to be revisited, but never quite forgotten, either. Tracey's story stays in London while Aimee's story is told in West Africa. But their connection to dancing is what keeps the story together. NY Times did a fabulous article that will connect you to the author and probably inspire you to read ALL of Smith's books. Read the article here: The Pieces of Zadie Smith
My final choice was actually this month's guest judge Anthony Bourdain, famed American chef, author and TV personality, book pick for November. His selection is the wickedly entertaining novel A Gambler's Anatomy by Jonathan Lethem. This is Lethem's 10th novel, and is about a Backgammon hustler named Alexander Bruno. Apparently he can't be beat and he has psychic abilities? It sounds like a thrill story. Something I would read in place of watching Fast and the Furious or The Prestige or something. Here's the NY Times review for more information: Jonathan Lethem: A Gambler's Anatomy
