I am running with a charity bib for CENTRAL ASIA INSTITUTE! My goal is to raise $750 before my race! All the money I raise will go to support Central Asia Institute, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing education for women and girls in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan.
I've chosen to run for CAI because I believe in the power of education and I believe in the power of SHE! I have worked with many organizations that support female education such as Days for Girls and Girls on the Run. My heart is in this! Plus running is a educational and growth experience for myself as well!

I recently came across a post in one of the fitness groups that I follow on Social Media, bashing Kayla Itsines (of the famous Bikini Guide Workout the "sweat with Kayla" movement or Team BBG) blog post about getting in shape without bulking. The author of the post bash was basically saying how irritated she was that people have this perception that getting bulky as a woman is a BAD thing! I recalled some recent conversations with guy friends in which they told me they did not think "buff" chicks were attractive. I felt they may be more intimitaded by a woman who was stronger than themselves and were probably just in their feelings to protect their manhood. I also thought of the several female body competitors that I follow on social media and that I am actually really great friends with. They are beautiful women inside and outside. Although I don't necessarily aspire to look like a competitor, I do admire strong women. Most of these women are married too! So obviously many men DO THINK "BUFF is Beautiful!".
I decided what it really comes down to is what the mind tells us each time we look in the mirror. The media would have us think that skinny photoshopped women are what we must aspire to be to be attractive. We try to look like Jennifer Lopez in the back and Angelina Jolie in the front with the arms of Michelle Obama and the feet of the Kardashins. We try diet after diet and get frustrated when they don't work. So we starve ourselves and spend 2 hours a day running on a treadmill to try and get results. But starving yourself and drinking meal replacement shakes everyday isn't the answer. You will burn fat, but you will also shed muscle due to the protein deficiency, and you’ll probably cause the one area you’re trying the hardest to tone up to blow up and make you feel worse about yourself!
I read a article that really nailed it simply for me and I want to share what "Food for Fuel" wrote:
"The only way for a woman to look toned up is to either be hit by the genetics stick or get their diet under control and do resistance training. The reason for that is that women naturally have a higher body fat percentage and because they can’t build big muscles, the easiest way to get around genetics is to increase your body’s overall lean muscle mass while attacking body fat through nutrition."
I believe in the power of exercise, but I think the harder part is nutrition. I recently tried RSP Nutrition and recommend it for both ends of the spectrum. (Whether you want to be bulky or not!) Why?! Because they have a range of products that meets every need from assistance with weight loss to muscle recovery. Also, because the effects are fast acting and you can see results quickly!) RSP ingredients help you break down body fat and cut fat cell count. So your results are longer lasting. Counting calories isn't the ultimate fix. Your body has needs. Fuel yourself correctly so that your body can do what it needs to help you!
Having muscle is a good thing! Since 5 lbs of muscles weighs as much as 5 lbs of fat...but looks different obviously...which one would you choose to have? Bulky is beautiful. Strong is beautiful. So if yoga or running is your thing...power to ya! But let's also take a second to appreciate the beauty of the rugby players and cross fit warriors. Just because you can bench press your husband, doesn't make you any less of a unique and beautiful female than the rest of them. So today we are celebrating all bodies whether they be bulky or thin! Because the body is a amazing and beautiful thing!
Build a body that's right for you with RSP Nutrition. Shop here!
If you can run or workout without music or some kind of distraction in your ear please comment and let me know how you do it! Because I seriously feel like I am way off and lack motivation when I do not have my music bumping! I recently volunteered at the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington DC. I was exhausted after the race and spending 8 hours lugging jugs of water around for racers to fill up their canteens and cups to re hydrate. I wanted to sleep for days! I felt like I had ran the marathon myself! I told myself that I would be okay if I only ran a half marathon my whole life. 26 miles is SO LONG! Some finishers crossed with nothing but a soaked shirt and shorts and bloody toes. Can you imagine?! No tunes! 26 miles of just hearing your feet slap the pavement and your breaths struggle out of your body! Applause for you. Please let me know how you do that!
All that aside, if you a person who prefers something running through your head during your workout...I highly recommend Rock My Run! The app is FREE and it includes a tempo-changing feature that allows you to set your BPM or match the music to your cadence or heart rate! Talk about a fun little boost of motivation! Now I don't have to listen to the same 2 playlists I created on Spotify to pace my runs. Or that PINK and LINCOLN PARK mix that I blast when I`m having a rough day but still want to feel "***BLEEPING*** Perfect". I run and the music matches me!
The mixes are created to scientifically improve runs by increasing intensity & energy of songs or the lyrics in the songs as a mix progresses to help keep your energy up as you fatigue. The songs are not played too long so that if you like it, you can enjoy it, but if you don't-you do not need to wait forever for it to be over or even stop your run and fumble around trying to find the skip button! Also, Rock My Run has some research behind their methods that show that BPM-tailored music can:
Let the Beat Drop!

I am determined this month to try and track my miles better! Daylight savings means that I am now running in the dark after work at 6:00PM when I usually do my runs! Luckily, I don't have to worry about lighting as I just got my new GoMotionGear Orion Belt! If you are a outdoor enthusiast, I recommend getting some GoMotionGear as seen in Health's Magazine "America's Healthiest Gear"! Their lightening gear makes runs, biking, hikes, and all things outdoors more safe so you can literally extend your day! Make sure you use code: gomoff15 at checkout to get your 15% discount! I`ll be sharing more product information in future blog posts!
Fall can be a busy time of year where we start to slide on our fitness goals! Sickness comes with the change of weather, holiday prep takes away our time, if your a student-tests and end of the semester challenges start to take over, if your a mom you are busy with sport season wrap ups and all things CHILDREN, so many things take away from our focus! I`m sharing 3 tips to help stay motivated this holiday season! Here they are:
1.) Party on a semi full stomach! Be consistent with your meals and plan your indulgences. Use the 80/20 rule. 80% controlled 20% indulged. Control your cravings and have a healthy snack or light meal before you go out to eat! On Turkey Day, make sure to eat slowly and in small portions! You don't have to eat the food just because it's there. Take a walk after your meals! 15 minutes or a jaunt around the block can do wonders! DRINK MORE WATER! :)
2.) Stay Moving! Keep your motivation by signing up for a race or a holiday workout challenge. There are tons of free challenges all over social media! Join and encourage friends and family to join with you! You need a goal and a plan! Write them down and STAY FOCUSED!
3.) Take time for "Self-Care". There's lots that of things and people that are pulling you all over for your time. Make sure you take some time for yourself! You can join my Read & Run Club and read a good book, go on a day-cation, or just sit back and watch a holiday movie on Netflix! But don't forget to let yourself relax and do you!
Happy November! Thanks for stopping by! Don't forget to follow me on social media for more Fitness and Running inspo! (@dumbbells.n.donuts and @she.runs.this.world)
Last time we chatted about the different work out forms out there and the pros and cons of going down the different particular routes. This time we are breaking down nutrition-specifically protein supplements. Let’s breakdown the two forms that are most popular right now Beachbody and IdealFit. We are mostly going to hit on Beachbody because you will be hearing A LOT about IdealFit. But these were my two final options that I couldn't decide between for a period of time. Once I explain why I didn't choose BB, explaining why I chose IdealFIT will be a much easier task! :)
Basically when you join Beachbody you are really paying for the Shakeology. You can get the workout programs for pretty decent prices. But your meal replacement shake is what you are paying for when you join a challenge group. This can be frustrating because it is a lot of money for one month supply of drink mix.
Let’s get the numbers out there because I know that’s pretty important! Shakeology is $120/ month or about $4 per day (Think of that as a meal since that is what it is!) You can get it at a discount if you decide to be a coach. But it’s still a whopping $90! Compared to other products such as Ideal Shape or 18Shake which is only $50 a month for a meal replacement, Shakeology seems like a punch to your wallet. So why do people buy it?
One way customers are saving and adding value with Shakeology is the ability to select “Home Direct” during the purchasing process. Home Direct is a monthly auto shipping service set up to ensure that Shakeology lovers never run out of the product. It’s a fantastic deal because it provides “Super Discount” shipping at a price of $2 per unit. This empowers customers to save more than $12 per month in shipping fees. Shakeology also provides Home Direct customers with two free workouts as an added bonus for signing up for the program. Do you know what this means? You are getting extra workouts for the money you spending helping ease that hit to your bank account. Shakeology also comes with a money back guarantee. Customers can try the product for 30 days and if they are unsatisfied with the results, they do not have to pay anything but the shipping and handling costs. That’s a great value, considering that the company will even process refunds for those who consumed the entire bag of Shakeology.
So basically, when you first sign on, everything seems super great because you are getting heaps of deals! But as time goes on, the automatic payments start to really add up and tear apart your wallet. The price of the Shake is really what has been keeping me hesitant with BB and becoming a BB Coach. The income does sound tempting, but I just can't convince myself that it's okay to pay that price a month for 1 shake a day! But, let's keep talking...I didn't let that be my only hindering point! :)
What is Shakeology doing for you exactly?
It seems people buy Shakeology because they love the taste and the see the results! Here’s what I have learned in researching and testing Shakeology.
I would love to discuss WHY SHAKES further! But this might take awhile...so keep following me and in another post I`ll discuss this topic more! :)
So...you still haven't told me WHY IDEALFIT!
So...I want to get fit and STAY Fit...but there are so many options out there...How do I choose which one to invest in?
Fitness has always been a part of my life. I love working out, being outdoors, being active, and good food! I have this deep inner desire to be healthy and strong, run marathons, be a Spartan champion, box, and hike every mountain peak this world has to offer. But I certainly am not in shape to do half of what I want to do. I love to eat cake waffles smothered in frosting syrup with a mound of ice cream on top! Some days I get really busy and I don't make the time to workout like I should. Plus in today's fitness world...THERE ARE SO MANY OPTIONS for exercise programs and nutrition too! I really just do not know which route to choose!
I have been doing A LOT of research and trying different programs to see if I could find a match for my budget, goals, and time. Here I will break down just some of my research that has led me to becoming a "IdealFit Athlete". I love all the programs mentioned below, and these are only a few of the options of course! But they are enough to compare the basics of all the programs out there from online streaming to apps and even old fashion just getting in the gym and getting it out. So if you are a BBG girl or Beachbody chick, please just know this article is my own conclusions-and I still think you are fabulous! :) Everyone everywhere should find their own personal route to fitness. Because everybody and EVERY BODY is unique! :)
SOOO...Here it goes!
Let's take a look at some companies that are growing rapidly as well as a few that have been around since...well basically the beginning of fitness! :)
What is it?
BBG is a 12 week guide that includes a meal plan and workout guide. It also includes a BBG community of fans so you can connect and get that bikini bod you have been dreaming about.
What does it Cost?
Plans start at $70 or you can get the bundle series for $119! I guess when you believe in your product, you can charge heaps for it, and people really do not mind paying for it!
What’s the Pros:
Results for some people? But there isn’t a money back guarantee. BBG also has a large following and community of workout lovers so you have company if you need it! You do get a 7 day FREE Trial!
*Results may vary. Strict adherence to the nutrition and exercise guide are required for best results.<---That line was taken right from the web page. Meaning, this workout, like all workouts, aren’t for everyone and is not guaranteed results! Also, because you need to follow the nutrition and the workout, you can’t go cheap-you have to basically buy the $119.00 bundle if you want success. Also, we are lacking variety in working out.
What is it?
A cardio dance workout! It’s a lot of fun! There’s lots of group exercise classes out there so you can compare it to the others such as High Fitness. The payment is probably the big thing here...so let’s talk money!
What’s the Pros?
It’s a fun workout! It is something that anyone can do and all that dance cardio helps you with weight control. Plus, you can get classes with a gym membership which makes finances a little easier!
What does it Cost?
DEPENDS! You can get classes if you enroll in a local gym. So consider that $20-$25 per month depending on what gym you go to. That ends up being $240/year or $300 per year. Question is...do you take a Zumba class everyday? A drop in class is $5 or more. As you can see, Group Exercise classes also add up pretty quickly!
Gold Gym Membership
What is it?
It’s a Gym membership that allows you to have access to the facility and classes like Zumba. This is the most common form of fitness investment.
What does it Cost?
You can get a gym membership for $9 which is why everybody usually goes for this method. That’s only $108 per year. However, most people choose to go for the $20 membership so they have better perks and can use any of the facilities anywhere without hassle. That’s $240 a year so things are adding up again! Although the price seems the best, it’s the CONS that we need to pay attention to!
What’s the Pros?
Really, mostly the best thing is that is is cheap and you have access to all the equipment you need to get in a good workout!
Although the price is great...you really aren’t paying for results! Many people have gym memberships and hardly ever use them. If you are checking out other fitness programs, it’s most likely because you aren’t seeing the results you want at the gym. We also sometimes get to the gym and do not really have anything to do or know what to do! So then we have to hire a personal trainer...and those guys AREN’T CHEAP! :)
Dollar Workout Club
Just like it says, it’s a workout club for a dollar a week or $4 per month. You can access workouts anywhere anytime! So it’s a cheaper version of Daily Burn kind of! But although working out for a buck seems like a legit deal… we are going to have to check out the pros and cons to see if this is really worth it!
What’s the Pros?
It’s CHEAP! Plus you get workouts streamed anywhere and they are done by professionals...so it’s kinds of like you are getting personal training?! It’s certainly a good way to go if you want to keep the cost of working out low and have a bit of variety in your workout.
What does it Cost?
$4 a month baby or about $50 per year! That’s that cheapest workout we have so far. There’s so many online programs now that you can do workouts anywhere for REAL CHEAP! You can even do workouts for FREE! So why pay $4 when you can just workout with THE FITNESS BLENDER? Let’s just be smart if we are going to be careful with our pennies!
Even though it is cheap, it is still a investment and you don’t really have anyone to hold you accountable if you use the videos or not. You pay for what you get which is a variety of workouts. No meal plans and no support. So often times you have the app, but you never really use it! Results probably won’t happen very fast if you are going this route. But, if you do workout with these videos...you will see change! Heck, that goes for ANY form of movement!
What is it?
Well…the company has been around forever and it just keeps adding more workouts to it’s line of products. Beachbody company’s mission is to help people achieve their goals and enjoy healthy, fulfilling lives. THEY PROMISE to deliver results. Beachbody has a variety of fitness programs and supplements to meet a variety of needs.
What’s the Pros?
You get a variety of workouts to choose from and you get your protein mix all in one payment. Also, you can sign up with a coach and get additional training and motivation. So that $140 includes personal training, a workout for up to 8 months (some programs more) and also guaranteed results with a 60 day money back if you don’t see your body get legit!
What does it Cost?
Here’s where everyone gets stomped! A challenge pack is $140! However, this includes ANY workout you want and your Shakeology, which is kind of like your meal plan. So although Beachbody is the most expensive thing we have discussed, we are going to break it down financially and also decide if really, it it the cheapest route to go!
The Cost! That’s a killer! Probably the cost is the main con when it comes to Beachbody. Otherwise you get everything else that we talked about with other programs including training, meal plans, variety, and a fitness community! But, it's up to you to make results happen. You can pay $120 for a shake a couple of shakes and a video but if you aren't drinking the shake and watching those tapes-then the investment really isn't worth it.
What is it?
IdealFit is a Sister Site to the well know IdealShape plan for individuals working on their weight goals. IdealFit offers protein and muscle building supplements specifically created with the women in mind. They also offer FREE workout plans and meal plans if you join their challenges. IdealShake has a 12 week program and IdealFit has 3 15 day challenge workouts that are also FREE!
What’s the Pros?
For the type of protein and the quality, it really is a decent price. Compared to other brands that are well known (shakeology, It-works, RSP, etc…) This is the lower end of the scale in terms of pricing. You also get FREE workouts, a social media group to help you stay connected to other individuals seeking their fitness goals, and there are several different flavors of protein to meet your taste bud needs!
What does it Cost?
IdealShake and IdealFit have a variety of programs and bundles that are all a for a good price. They also run deals every month. There is not a sign on fee or a coach discount, although you can become a affiliate with them and earn cash that way! For this review, we are going to focus on the protein powder alone. IdealFit powder costs $40 or $1.30 per day for a shake. You can also buy the bundle and get 4 sample packets and a IdealFIT blender bottle for only $10.00 more. Read on and we will take a look at this price compared to the cheapest brand that you can pick up from Walmart.
There isn’t an IdealFit app yet! There also isn’t workout videos or live streaming, but as mentioned before, there are trainings for FREE!
SO WHAT NOW?
There are so many other fitness options from registering for CLASS PASS and taking group exercise classes for $55 a month, to streaming free videos on YouTube with The Body Coach in the UK. The big thing when it comes to working out-is finding whatever it is that YOU LIKE TO DO that makes you move! I am a big component of just insuring that you intake less food than you expend. If you like to bike-bike. If you like to run-run. If you like to dance-dance. If you just have a problem getting motivated to do anything-let's talk. There's ways around that too and they don't cost a thing! :)
If you haven't read my previous posts, I am doing a 7 day challenge inspired by a talk from President Thomas S Monson in a April 1972 address titled: "Finishers Wanted". In this talk, President Monson shares 5 principle he believe are essential to our success of finishing tasks and goals both here on earth, and in the eternities. He calls them, "marks of true finishers".
The first mark we discussed in my previous post was Vision. The second mark, and the mark for today is Effort. Vision without effort is daydreaming, effort without vision is drudgery; but vision, coupled with effort, will obtain the prize.
Needed is the capacity to make the second effort when life’s challenges lay us low.
“Stick to your task ’til it sticks to you;
Beginners are many, but enders are few.
Honor, power, place and praise
Will always come to the one who stays.
“Stick to your task ’til it sticks to you;
Bend at it, sweat at it, smile at it, too;
For out of the bend and the sweat and the smile
Will come life’s victories after a while.”
I currently serve in a organization called Teens Run DC, where we teach life skills through long distance running and a mentor program, to middle school and high school aged youth. Ironically enough, our team put together 5 principles that we teach the youth we work with in our organization- and the first two are VISION AND EFFORT! It's a bit of a testimony to me that these things are kind of a big deal!
I often ask my students to define effort for me and they usually say, "it's doing something, even when it's hard." That really is a simple definition. The dictionary simply defines it as a exertion of physical or mental power. When my students are finished with their class each day, they get to tell me how many points they should receive based on the effort they put into the class. I wonder, if I had someone to report to at the end of the day, how many points I would get based on my efforts to get through a day. Days like today, I would say maybe 75 out of 100.
Today was a hard day. I put in a lot of effort. But I also probably could have put in a little extra effort to finish tasks that I have listed in my planner to do. Today wasn't perfect. But most days aren't. Still, if I am being held accountable for the effort I put into each day, and if I actually had to report it to someone important-I wonder what grade I would get. Would I ever make it to the end goal of 100 points so I can get my prize like my students? Do I get frustrated when it seems like it's taking too long to get to the prize? Am I physically present each day of my life and mentally present as well? Ready to take on the challenges before me with a positive attitude and a determination to succeed!
Today's task is to start reporting my daily points for effort. I`ll take personal accountability, and I will also report each night to my Father in Heaven. Like I do with my students, I need to put in the effort, report it, and explain how I put in the effort. Then, where I am lacking, I can ask for help to make up for the rest. Marriages are a good place to evaluate effort. Rarely in a relationship does each person put in 50/50. But luckily with God, no matter the effort you put in, if you give your best, and I mean your very best-he will certainly put in the rest!
Thanks for joining with me in this challenge! Don't forget to share any insights you might have below!
As mentioned in my previous post, I was inspired by a address given by President Thomas S Monson in April 1972. The talk is titled: "Finishers Wanted". President Monson gave 5 true marks of a finisher. These principles he feels are vital to our success. I completely agree! So I wanted to take a week to internalize these principles and make them more integrated in my life. As a running and health coach, I can see how these principles are also very vital to our success in our journey to live healthy and productive lifestyles. We can use these principles to help us finish our long and short term goals in every aspect of life. Feel free to follow the challenge with me! If you do, share what you learn or your experiences in the comment section! I would love to hear from you!
The first "Mark of a True Finisher" is: The Mark of Vision.
"It has been said that the doorways of history turn on small hinges, and so do people’s lives. We are constantly making small decisions. The outcome determines the success or failure of our lives. That is why it is worthwhile to look ahead, set a course, and at least be partly ready when the moment of decision comes. True finishers have the capacity to visualize their objective."
I looked up the word vision in the dictionary and found this meaning:
An experience in which a personage, thing, or event appears vividly or credibly to the mind, although not actually present, often under the influence of a divine or other agency.
Although we associate this meaning of the word vision more with miraculous events such as conversing with angels or deity, I do believe that we can have a vision granted to us of our lives and what we hope to become under the influence of divinity as well. Often times my dreams are the future. If we converse with God and ask Him to show us what we are capable of becoming, I believe we can vividly see in the mind what is not actually at present, under the direction of the spirit.
Another meaning I found is more commonly associated with the word vision. It is the act or power of anticipating that which will or may come to be. In a different address given by President Thomas S Monson in November of 1979, he taught, " Our lives will depend upon the decisions which we make—for decisions determine destiny." At a later date and in a different address much more recently, he told the story of Alice in Wonderland relating the part where she meets the Cheshire Cat and inquires which direction she should go. "That depends on where you want to go. If you do not know where you want to go, then it doesn't matter which direction you take."
When we have vision, we have goals and a end destination in mind. The path we choose really does matter. President Monson taught that when the time for decision has come, the time for preparation has passed. We need to know the path we want to go before we hit the cross road. As a young single adult, I am in a period of my life where I am still preparing to make large decisions in my life such as, "should I continue my education and pursue graduate school?", "shall I date and pursue marriage?", "where shall I start my career?", "how can I build a stable life financially?", and many more. For those that are past this stage in their lives...congrats! I am sure that you have other challenges to face that I am not envious of! I don't have a answer to how to obtain answers to these questions that each of us have. But I do know that if we have a vision, and we are on a good path filled with productivity and doing good things, whatever our good desire are-will surely come to pass.
President David O. McKay was fond: “You are the fellow that has to decide Whether you’ll do it or toss it aside. … Whether you’ll try for the goal that’s afar Or be contented to stay where you are.” I have learned that one of the deepest fears of man is failure. We tend to avoid making choices because we don't want to make the WRONG ONE. We also tend to make excuses for ourselves. Making choices has never been easy, especially when we have many good choices on our plate. But we should still make them and we shouldn't choose easy outs. I love what President Monson taught, "I plead with you to choose the hard way and tax your talents. Our Heavenly Father will make you equal to your tasks. If one should stumble, if one should take a course and get less than the “A” grade desired, I hope such a one will not let it become a discouraging thing to him. I hope that he will rise and try again."
My task for this challenge is to evaluate my life and set a vision for where I want to be. Too often we set goals and do not follow through. So I am going to only set 5 very obtainable goals and make a plan to accomplish them over the next year. I have a tendency to be a little over zealous and put my focus on way too many tasks at once. I`m going to write the goals down and put them where I will see them everyday (like my bathroom mirror). Then I will do one thing everyday that will get me closer to my goals.
Thanks for reading my post today! I`ll be back tomorrow with Day 2 of the Finish or Falter Challenge! Comment below with insights or things you want to share!
Today I was lifted by a address given by Thomas S Monson in a 1972 conference titled, "Finishers Wanted". I'm going to do a 7 day Challenge reviewing what he taught are the "marks of a finisher". This will be a excellent way to realign myself as well as strengthen myself physically and spiritually this week! Here's the details of the challenge:
Marks of a Finisher
Day 1: The Mark of Vision.
Day 2: The Mark of Effort.
Day 3: The Mark of Faith.
Day 4: The Mark of Virtue.
Day 5: The Mark of Courage.
Day 6: The Mark of Prayer.
Day 7: 2 Timothy 4: 7 "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
Each day I will share a photo and blog post discussing the specified "mark" of the day. I don't want to give too much detail of each mark before the challenge begins! :) But if you would like to join, and even if you don't want to join, please read the talk "Finishers Wanted" by Thomas S Monson. I will start the challenge on October 2nd and end on October 8th! But this challenge could be done anytime so if you want to start with me, fabulous! If you want to do it another time...that's fabulous too!
Questions, comments, or suggestions? Leave them below! Looking forwarded to building faith with you!
My thoughts exactly...
It's been one heck of a trip trying to get to Uganda. From finances to uncomfortable plane rides to crazy jet lag...
I am going for a good cause...(sigh...rubbing bridge of nose)
I missed my flight from hawaii to Phoenix! (Be two freaking minutes!) blast! I'm shaking because in so frustrated. It was the doink old man at the gate entrances fault! He was so rude! I told him I was in a hurry. He told me so was everyone else. He went really slow. I wanted to punch him...but that would probably hurt me more than him...
I have no money...what should I do. I see a girl at behind the airline counter. And I hear a voice say, "go to her." She is my age. She looks like Kyla Pratt from the Disney channel. She keeps calling me baby. I kind of like that...I haven't been called by a endearing name in a long time...:) she hooked me up! She saved my life! I gotta a new flight...faster and goes through LA...plus the seating was upgraded. She is awesome...(miracle #2...the first was the money that someone super kind donated and put in my account!)
Next struggle... I find out on my way back from my recent long 5 week tour of Asia, that I need a yellow fever shot to get into Uganda. yellow fever?! I only have one day in America...what the heck is yellow fever? Why wouldn't it be black fever? Shouldn't I have worried about getting yellow fever when I was in Asia? I'm confused....
People come into my life at the perfect moments...five hours later after landing on mainland soil in Phoenix Arizona...we're finally able to find a doctor to write me a prescription (you have to have one for this dang shot) and we were finally able to get the $150 immunization! What the heck! Who pays $150 for a shot!...it rang up as $135?! Perfect! God is good...still a chunk of money! that my living expenses for my entire month in Uganda?! Maybe I won't go...no, I have to go...I just won't eat anything for a month....still...it's another miracle. (Miracle #3)
Yellow fever comes from mosquito bites...I hate Mosquitos! I have scars all over my arms and legs right now from the bugs and Mosquitos in Asia! Mosquitoes must have simply been created to torment man. They probably came with the plagues of Moses....they have no other purpose.
I'm home! I missed this place. My pillow on my bed feels so nice when my head finally hits it at 2:30am. I'm so off with my time. Tomorrow is gonna be a long day...
Time to wake up! It's 5:00am...I slept 2 hours...I don't know how I feel. I'm awake though...I'll drive. Everyone else needs sleep after the long day I put them through...I drive to Phoenix...I'm starting to get sleepy...
They dropped me off at the airport...this is it! First flight was to Philadelphia...only 3.5 hours. Not bad. I will sleep!
I need a $50 bill! Nobody carries those! I have to have a $50 bill older than the age 2006 to get into the country! Why?! I can only take 20s out of the ATM. I refuse to get frustrated...but who makes these rules?
Flight time...I'm headed to London. Philadelphia was a decent stay...I'm starving...I don't really have money to eat. Mom messages me and says I better buy something. I'm obedient and hope that it will be made up later. Mom would flip her poo if she found out I hadn't planned on eating for the 24 hour duration of this trip...and possibly most of my time in Africa...
London is a long flight! 8 uncomfortable hours! I'm so tired! But...the movies are free! And I get to watch some inspiring shows...get it together Anna! You're going to do good things....
London is a nightmare....security is so intense! I have to pee! It takes forever to get through the crazy security and all the crazy masses of people...
my flight is delayed... I'm stuck for four extra hours. I think when I get to Africa immigration will be closed as it will be one in the morning...looks like I'll be spending the night in a African cell...I still need that $50 dollar bill!
(I go to a ATM.) Only $20s...Well, I have to try...I take out $60...now I can't eat here in London...good thing they gave us food on the plane...I'm getting hungry...whatever...I ask a red head in currency exchange If she can exchange my money and give me a fifty and a ten American dollar bill for my change. She looked at me and gave me a saucy reply. Everyone here seems to be saucy. Even though there's heaps of different languages and ethnicities...everyone looks like a punk and sauce sounds the same in every language...she won't change "my papers"...I keep trying...not everyone here must have a stick up their bum...
I find a nice looking lady behind another currency exchange counter. I thought I might try the boy...but I know my appearance is far from seductive...I'm super hideous right now. He wouldn't be charmed...and I wouldn't blame him...Ill stick with the girl...
Winner! She tells me it's against the rules to exchange papers...I explain to her my ridiculous situation and how I have to have this stupid $50 bill to get into the country...she looks over both shoulders...I smile...she's in! She sneaks money out of the counter and slips it to me for mine...she tells me not to tell anybody! So...for now...you all are nobody! And don't you say a thing! (Miracle #4)
I'm finally able to sit and rest...I have my dang yellow fever card, my fifty dollar bill, and only one really long flight to Entebbe after a long flight delay...I made it this far...that itself...is a miracle! (Miracle #5)
I'm so excited to finally be on my way to Africa to be a part of Days for Girls where I'll be making and distributing personal hygiene kits to girls in Uganda and helping with health/hygiene education! I am thankful for all my family and supporters of BanAnna Beauty that helped me get here! TO WHOM MUCH IS GIVEN, MUCH IS REQUIRED. #Live2Give#happiness#Africa#BanAnnaBeauty#travel
-If you have to be a third wheel, I recommend being one with a married couple! At least then you are almost guaranteed that they will feed you! You become like their child! It's wonderful!
-I especially recommend being a third wheel to a couple who is married or been together for a long time...because then they think they know everything about each other! And so you get to be the center of attention:) (if you're in to that...and let's be honest...we all are!)
-If you are traveling, that window seat on the bus or plane becomes yours! Score! (Because couples apparently have to sit by each other and can't be separated for more than 5minutes or people will think they are fighting or something?!)
-You can opt out things and not feel so bad. The con is that usually you get dragged into things anyway because otherwise your "all alone again!"
-you're entitled to being able to duck out of things and be awkward! Because 1.) you're single! All single people are socially awkward! That's why they are single! 2.) the couple lives in their own world! Your presence is like a plant! Pretty and nice, but not necessary...
-watching the couple is very educational...you unintentionally get to learn the dos and don'ts of a relationship!
-you don't have to bother looking good! Own your title baby!
-you get your own bed! Complete with all the sheets and all the covers! It's so nice!
-It makes you aware of just how single you are. You have no one. You will die alone...
-even if another "fourth wheel" comes along, it's usually someone of the same sex. So there isn't even a hope for some eye candy for a few moments. And often times, that person brings a "friend"...so you become the "fifth wheel", which sucks two times more than being a third wheel! :)
-couples share everything! Including finances! Therefore you always end up worrying and spending more than them! And they also share jokes! (Even your jokes...they take them and make them a joke between them...and use them over and over and over again:)
You have to always look away to avoid watching PDA. (Even if they swear they don't do PDA, something happens to them every time they are around you where it just seems like you make them get touchy! I guess this only happens when they are around you though...so feel flattered)
-you eventually have to start asking the couple about their siblings! Even Harry Potter with his freaking magic wand couldn't come up with a love spell to battle the third wheel curse! He totally creeped in on his buds sister. It's inevitable...
Mastering the art of third-wheeling takes patience, a good sense of humor, and most importantly, a genuine love of sitting alone in a roller coaster car for two.

Japan to Taiwan to Thailand
Two countries down and one more coming up...I have a list of things I thoroughly loved and enjoyed about each country that I have visited.
I thought about saying, "what I'll miss about Japan" or "what I'll miss about Taiwan", but to miss something implies you might not see it again or you might not see it for a long time...I don't like that idea. So I'm just gonna say..."what I can't wait to see again in Japan and Taiwan!"
-The people! They are great to watch! Plus they are super polite. Like the cool well dressed man and his wife in the very first restaurant that we are at who totally bought out meal! Shout out yo! Plus everyone dresses SO good! I'm Jelly! I wish I had such style!
-The cleanliness! Japan was so clean and tech savvy! I loved it! I am a clean freak, so Singapore and Japan just make me happy:)
-The quite streets! I am a country girl who still doesn't appreciate traffic and complicated street lights. The fact that I could walk in the middle of the road and everything was okay, make me feel at home.
-The fact that the people on the walking signs were business men in suits and a hat. Classy
-The food! So good! I love the food!
Life is expensive in Japan but I still love the food!
- the anime girls! They are awesome! With their big huge eyes and fake eyelashes...and that crazy style! And of course the go-go boots!
-The cartoon music that was always playing in the streets making it feel like you were in a Nintendo game.
-the international LDS ward! The people were fabulous hosts and we made amazing friends!
-Our German friend Rob and Ralph and our American buddy Chris! They were excellent entertainers and we will be friends for life!
-Charlie Cat (Charles pickering) our last home host! Excellent tour guide and a man with a sense of humor! He was good... A little too good :)
-meeting up with kids from BYU-Hawaii! The world gets smaller every day!
-the cheap life! Japan took a hit to my wallet! Taiwan gave me a break!
-The Banks family! Excellent hosts, excellent tour guides, and super giving!
-The Chinese ward! Such a blessing to make more new friends!
-Good hikes and 6 people bikes! :)
-learning the value of family!
-The fact that it reminded me so much of my China adventure! I sure do miss China!
Well, we're on the plane to our next destination! Thailand...I can't wait to find reasons to fall in love with you!
" 20 years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you that you DID NOT do than by the things you DID do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore, Dream, Discover." -M. Twain
Today was a pretty amazing day in Japan. (Even though I have been sick and couldn't even speak!) Shout out to our host Charles who has taken such good care of us and helped us have a absolutely postively good time! Tomorrow we head off to Taiwan! Let the adventures begin!
I grew up in a small town with a lot of farms and animals. I wore overalls and loved big trucks. My brothers were my heroes and I tried to be like them. When they became skaters, I wanted to be a skater...I bought the clothes and attempted to ride a board. When my brother went hunting or fishing, I begged to go with them!I loved them so much! I would do anything to be like them.
After I graduated I moved to a small town in Utah and started school. I was super busy with my own new life. I spent many years trying different things...but mostly...trying to find myself.
I didn't have my brothers shadows to jump into and try to take on their formation. I didn't have anybody but me...I changed my mind all the time! I switched majors every year, had a million jobs, dated silly boys and broke off way too many engagements, and couldn't ware the same outfit from year to year because I was constantly looking for my own style. People called me flighty. Or the author of adventure. But really...I was just growing up.
I still don't know a lot about myself or even, who I really am supposed to be. I still change my mind a lot. I can't sit still. And I still am super single:) but...I'm happy. That's what makes life beautiful...because happiness isn't a destination...it's a journey. And you can find bits of peices of happiness everyday to add to your own personal road map! Today, I'm practicing finding joy in the journey...regardless if my life isn't exactly the way I want it to be...happiness is great because we all create our own!
Tokyo has been amazing! I am a little sad that we are leaving this city, but Ill come back! We are on our way to Osaka! We have made some amazing friends! Sunday we had a family home evening with both the YSA ward and the family ward in our area! I feel so blessed to be able to create world wide friendships! That truly is the best part of traveling! We also made some great friends from Kassle, Germany! You will see them in the pictures and videos. Robert is a stellar dancer and great entertainer! Rafael is a fitness enthusiast and youtuber! You should check him out! They are brothers and have added a lot of life to our trip! BIG SHOUT OUT to our hosts for this trip as well! They have been amazing! I love all the people in Tokyo! Everyone is so polite! They dress a little crazy (anime like)...but they rock! :) It's been a blast! And the food is SO good! Welp! Until we meet again Tokyo!
Sometimes life is a bundle of chaos and we wonder how we get ourselves into situations! But the people we have in our lives during times of crazy, make it all worth it. Big shout out to my friends in hawaii who helped me get through my first couple of days on my adventure! Holy cow it's been nuts! I haven't ate in 24 hours, I have slept maybe 4 hours, I realized my flight to Japan was a day earlier than I thought, and I still have to finish my research paper! Last night was super stressful, but I have great people in my life that have helped me get through it! And ofcourse I have a awesome family on earth and in heaven! If the lords brings you to it, he'll bring you through it! Next stop...Japan!
If I had my ultimate dream job, it would be to take my hammock and backpack and travel around the world doing humanitarian work for the rest of my life! Well, tomorrow I start my dream! Thanks to all those who helped make it possible! From Arizona to Utah to Hawaii to Asia to Africa! Let the adventures BEGIN!
